Occupational safety is one of Häfner’s corporate goals!
The safe design of machines, plant, and workplaces is a declared management objective and not merely to comply with legal requirements.
A safe, hazard-free working environment with flawless output makes for smooth operations.
Our high quality, cost-effective products ensure your manufacturing processes run seamlessly. -
How does Häfner help employees advance their knowlege and skills?
Qualified personnel is the key resource of any company.
Only well-trained employees and career starters can give customers competent advice and deliver products of the highest quality.
As a recognized training company, Häfner is well aware of its responsibility in this area.
8% of our employees are trainees.
We partner with colleges and universities of applied sciences, and attach great importance to the regular further training of both junior staff and long-standing employees. -
Why is Häfner not certified according to IATF 16949?
Technical Specification 16949 only applies where products are manufactured for the production or maintenance of automobiles.
Since we only manufacture operating equipment and not parts that are used in automobiles, we do not fall within the scope of this standard.
Certification according to IATF 16949 is therefore not permissible. -
Isn’t the manufacture of plastic spools harmful to the environment?
The implementation of environmental protection is a declared goal of our management programme.
Our certification according to DIN EN ISO 14001 involves annual environmental audits, which means our internal life cycle assessment from raw materials to plastic spools is continuously analysed and improved - especially in the areas of energy efficiency, hazardous materials and waste management. -
Demopac® - the key to better logistics
Make a finished spool from two parts in seconds!
Storage and transport volumes are reduced to one third or less, benefitting not only the environment but also your storage capacity.
And as Demopac® spools are easily stackable, disposal is also more efficient.
Simply disassemble the spool, which is protected by patent and utility model, to reduce the volume again.
The usable volume can be varied by assembling different sized spool elements. -
What makes a good plastic spool?
Plastic spools are used for a wide variety of purposes.
They are used as precision machine elements or as single-use or reusable packaging for wire products.
A good plastic spool always has the best process quality for its area of application.
Where production spools are concerned, this can mean high dimensional precision and good concentricity.
For packaging spools, on the other hand, the price may be the deciding factor.
Which is why we ask you to tell us what you need the spool for. Only when we know its intended purpose can we offer you the optimal product. -
Does Häfner use tested raw materials?
It goes without saying that at Häfner incoming goods are subject to rigorous inspection.
All batches of material delivered are checked by our experienced team before they are used.
Flawless raw materials are the basic prerequisite for trouble-free and on-schedule production.
Both have top priority at Häfner. -
Price, price, price...
The more information we have about the intended use, the better able we are to offer you the optimal spool.
The required quantity is also an important factor, as this is a potential knockout criterion for custom-made products.
This is why we request that the information you give us on the above is as precise as possible. -
Is Häfner also represented outside Europe?
Häfner supplies customers around the globe.
And personal and direct contact to our customers takes absolute priority.
In addition to our numerous European representatives, other contacts all over the world – from Brazil to South Korea – will be pleased to answer your enquiries.
You can find an overview of all representatives on our home page under www.hafner-spools.com -
Plastic – but better than steel?
Only precision-machined steel spools offer better concentricity properties than our plastic spools.
Bushes made of glass fibre reinforced polyamide offer very high abrasion resistance and emergency running properties and comply with the recommended design principle.
The surface hardness of materials that move against each other should be as different as possible. -
Is there an ideal spool for every application?
Whether you require a standard spool, a reusable spool, or an inexpensive packaging spool – Häfner has 1,400 different types of spool for you to choose from, with diameters ranging from 40 to 1,000 mm.
In our 80-year company history, we have built up comprehensive expertise in the understanding of spool stresses.
Our experienced team will be pleased to assist you in realizing an individual product solution tailored to your specific requirements. -
Why plastic spools?
Why not a natural material like wood?
Because it is completely unsuitable for such use!
Wood, like almost all natural materials, tends to absorb moisture and has to undergo a complex impregnation process before use.
This in turn makes recycling difficult.
Here, plastic has a clear advantage.
Compared to spools made of other materials, plastic spools generally offer the best ratio in terms of process quality and price.
Intelligent solutions like Häfner’s separable DEMOPAC® spools also reduce storage space requirements, and the low freight volume is kinder to the environment. -
Are special requests and special designs possible?
This brochure can only provide a guide to our products and standard dimensions, as numerous combinations and details are possible.
If possible, please enclose a drawing with your enquiry, showing the position and design of drives, and wire entry and exit.
A wide range of different hub designs are also possible.
Send us your enquiry with your requirements.
We manufacture to order, customized to your specifications. -
Are there any spools that meet hygiene requirements?
Yes.
Medical technology is not the only field with stringent hygiene regulations for spools.
Häfner, Europe's No. 1 for spools made of thermoplastics, meets these quality requirements precisely.
With the commissioning of our own cleanroom – in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14644-1/CGMP class D - we have expanded our range of services to include germ and particle-free products.
Further information can be found on our home page under www.medspools.de

What is ESC?
Even plastic spools can “corrode” under certain conditions.
ESC is short for “Environmental Stress Cracking”.
Spools break for no apparent reason.
A material analysis shows clear damage to the structure.
This problem is caused by the influence of certain chemicals on the plastic material, which is exposed to high tension during the winding process.
Chemicals used in the production process should therefore always be tested for their compatibility with the material of the spool. -
Does Häfner have measures in place to ensure delivery reliability?
Yes.
At Häfner, delivery reliability is of prime importance.
As a rule, we can deliver standard spools immediately or at short notice, thanks to our capacity to store 10,000 pallets.
In many cases, same-day deliveries are possible for call-off orders.
Since Häfner has two production sites in Germany, we can react flexibly to peaks in demand and use additional mould tools at short notice to manufacture the type of spool you require.
This allows us to have your order ready for dispatch immediately. -
Are there other spools with similar dimensions to DIN spools?
In Brochure No. 2 you will find spools with conical flanges according to DIN EN 60264-5-1.
The HKV spool series shown was specially designed for high flange loads due to very fine wire.
Higher pay-off speeds can be achieved with these biconical coils, making your production more efficient. -
Is Häfner ISO certified?
Yes, since as early as 1997.
Our customers’ needs and expectations are our number one priority.
A certified quality management system is an effective instrument to meet the high quality requirements of our customers.
Certification in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001 and DIN EN ISO 14001 was therefore a logical step.
(According to IATF, we are not permitted to be certified in compliance with IATF16949) -
How do you find the right spool?
Our extensive catalogue contains a “Master list”, where you can find all the spools available listed with their main dimensions.
They are sorted by flange size, making it easy for you to select the right product for the intended application.
The spool search function on our home page under spools and reels search allows you to refine your search by entering additional critieria, e.g. bore diameter or maximum winding volume.
This enables you to quickly find the best product for your application.
